From March 1 to May 31, an estimated 60,000 Oklahomans will join millions nationwide to participate in the 2017 Great American Cleanup (GAC).
Individuals and groups wishing to participate in the GAC in Oklahoma must register through Keep Oklahoma Beautiful (KOB). Registered groups are able to receive free cleanup supplies, program materials and grant opportunities. Free supplies include trash bags, gloves, vests, water, t-shirts and promotional banners. Any group that registers for supplies after March 1 will be required to pay shipping or make arrangement to travel for delivery.
Registered groups also have access to cash grants, sponsored by OGE Energy Corp., and equipment grants, sponsored by P&K equipment. OGE GAC Cash Grant applications are currently available at www.keepoklahomabeautiful.com. P&K Equipment Grant applications open on February 1 and will also be available on KOB’s website.
The largest one-day cleanup event during the GAC in Oklahoma is the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s “TRASH-OFF.” This year, the ODOT TRASH-OFF is scheduled for April 22. Those wishing to participate in this event must make note of their entry in their GAC registration. Participation in the ODOT TRASH-OFF makes a group eligible for ODOT’s award at KOB’s annual Environmental Excellence Celebration.
The GAC in Oklahoma is sponsored by the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Oklahoma Beverage Association, Oklahoma Environmental Management Authority, OGE Energy Corp., P&K Equipment and Warren CAT.
“The Great American Cleanup is a wonderful way for communities to come together with a unified goal,” said Natalie Evans, KOB Projects Coordinator. “I’m amazed at all that our participants accomplish each year. Don’t miss out on this opportunity for your community.”
The GAC in Oklahoma is facilitated by KOB, a statewide affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. Keep Oklahoma Beautiful is a statewide nonprofit with a mission to empower Oklahoma citizens to preserve and enhance the state’s natural beauty and ensure a healthy, sustainable environment.
