CHECOTAH—Poteau pounded Checotah, 15-3, in the opener of a two-game district series on Monday.
The Pirates host Checotah Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in another district contest.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Poteau countered with seven runs in the top of the second and put the game away by run rule with a five-run fifth inning.
Dawson Perry went 3-3 with two runs and a RBI, Ben Klutts banged two doubles and was 3-5 with two runs and a RBI, Jaden Collins was also 3-5 with a double, two runs and two RBI, Easton Francis had a 2-3 game with three runs, Rece Ward doubled in a 1-2 outing with two RBI and a run and Clay Cross also doubled while going 1-3 with a RBI and run scored.
Klutts was the winning pitcher, going 2.0 innings while striking out one and allowing two hits. Cade Smith allowed four hits in one inning of pitching before Carson Cheek went 3.0 innings with five strikeouts and two hits.
The Pirates improve to 7-5 overall, 6-1 in district play. Checotah drops to 12-3 and 2-2 in district competition.
