DEWAR—Spiro exploded for nine runs in the fifth inning to take a 10-1 win over Checotah in the opening round of the Dewar Invitational Tournament on Thursday.
The Bulldogs play Depew Friday at 8 p.m. in the semifinals.
The teams were tied at 1 before the Bulldogs scored the nine runs to clinch the run-rule win.
Bradlee Chronister got the win for Spiro, going 5.0 innings while striking out five and allowing four hits.
Brevon Harper doubled and was 2-3 with three RBI and a run while Ethan Gist also hit a double while going 1-3 with two RBI. Dylan Ridenour and Cade Blankenship both were 2-3 with a run scored while Trent Goines went 1-2, scored three times and had a RBI and Drew Dixon was 1-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
Spiro improved to 7-4 while Checotah drops to 12-5.
