PANAMA—Poteau got a pair of home runs from Kale Barcheers as the Pirates moved into the championship game of the baseball LeFlore County Tournament with a 7-5 win over defending champion Wister on Thursday.
Barcheers hit a 2-run blast in the second inning and added a 3-run homer in the fourth inning for the Pirates. Clay Cross doubled in a pair of runs for Poteau’s final runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Barcheers finished 2-2 with the five RBI and three runs. Ben Klutts got the win in a matchup with Scotty Gibson of the Wildcats, going the distance while allowing four hits and striking out six.
Gibson pitched 6.0 innings with 10 strikeouts and five hits.
Poteau won despite having six errors. Koby Midgley was 2-4 for Wister with a double and three runs. Bryar Ward hit a doubled and was 1-3 while Kolton Lynn doubled and was 1-4 with two RBI.
Panama plays Pocola at 4 p.m. on Friday with the winner playing Wister at 6 p.m. The winner of the 6 p.m. game plays Poteau at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
If Poteau wins, the Pirates are the LCT champions. If the Pirates lose, the two teams play again at 4 p.m.
In earlier games on Thursday, Howe defeated Spiro, 8-1; Poteau blasted Panama, 18-2; Pocola downed LeFlore, 11-3; and Panama stayed alive with an 8-0 win over Howe.
