SALLISAW—Carson Cheek drove Ben Klutts in with the go-ahead run and Easton Francis hit a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give Poteau a 7-4 win at Sallisaw on Tuesday in an important district game.
The two teams meet again Wednesday in Poteau at 4:30 p.m. If the Pirates win, they clinch the district championship and the top seed in the postseason playoffs.
Ben Klutts led off the ninth inning with a double and advanced to third on a ground out. Cheek singled to bring Klutts in with the go-ahead run and Francis followed with the homer to left field for the final 7-4 score.
Klutts got the win in relief of Bryson Myers. Klutts pitched 2.0 innings, allowing two hits before Rece Ward finished up the game, striking out one and not allowing a hit. Myers went 6.0 innings, striking out five and allowing seven hits.
Klutts went 4-5 with the double, a run and a RBI, Ward was 3-4 with two runs and a double, Francis had the home run in a 2-5 outing with two runs and two RBI, Jaden Collins finished 2-5 with a run and Jordan Collins drove in a pair of runs.
Poteau improves to 17-8 overall and 10-1 in district play. Sallisaw drops to 11-9 and 8-2.
