SPIRO—Wilburton pushed across a run in the top of the ninth to defeat Spiro, 5-4, on Friday and win a 3A district tournament.
The two teams split a pair of games on Thursday (See STORY), setting the stage for Friday’s game.
The two teams were tied at 3 going into the seventh inning before both teams scored a single run to send the game into extra innings. Neither team could score in the eighth inning before the Diggers rallied for the winning run in the top of the ninth.
Alex Demato went the first seven innings for the Bulldogs, allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out 10. Trent Goins pitched the final 2.0 innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out three.
Brevon Harper homered and was 2-4 with three RBI and two runs to lead Spiro. Drew Dixon doubled twice and went 2-5 with a RBI, Demato went 2-5 and Daniel Howery had a 2-4 game with a run scored.
Wilburton advances to the regional tournament with a 14-13 record while Spiro ends its season with an 11-13 record.
