Heavener freshman Journey Perdue is tied for seventh after the first round of the Class 3A state golf tournament on Wednesday.
In the 4A state tournament at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City, Poteau’s girls are 12th after shooting a 434 in the opening round.
The tournament is being played at Cherokee Springs Golf Course in Tahlequah.
Perdue opened with an 83, eight strokes behind Taylor Towers of Rejoice Christian, who shot a 75 in cool and blustery weather conditions.
The Lady Wolves’ Gracie Summers, also a freshman, shot a 108. Perdue and Summers are the first Heavener girls to qualify for the state golf tournament.
Marlow is leading the tournament, shooting a 347 to open an 18-shot lead.
Plainview is leading the 4A state tournament after opening with a 323 on Wednesday
The second round in both tournaments will be played on Thursday.
