TAHLEQUAH—Hilldale came from behind to edge Poteau’s boys in the 4A east golf regional on Wednesday at Cherokee Springs Golf Course here.
The Pirates held a 1-stroke lead after the opening 18 holes and finished two strokes behind the Hornets for the regional championship. Hilldale finished at 650 while Poteau was at 652.
Newcastle was third with a 704.
The Pirates’ Ryan Ward was the medalist for the tournament, shooting a 73-75 (148) to win by two strokes over Grant Sikes of Hilldale.
Other Poteau scores were Justun Coyle 79-82 (161); Bryson Terry 83-86 (169); Luke Wheat 89-85 (174); and Jerry Loggains 91-90 (181).
This is the seventh straight year Poteau has qualified for the state tournament.
