OKLAHOMA CITY—Poteau’s boys are in second place after the opening day of the 4A state golf tournament.
The Pirates sit at 603 after opening with rounds of 296-307. Holland Hall leads the tournament after shooting 571 after the first 36 holes. There will be an additional 18 holes played on Tuesday.
Poteau holds a 3-stroke lead over Elk City.
The Pirates’ Ryan Ward shot 71-71 (142) and sits in sixth place, nine strokes back of Dalton Daniel of Newcastle. Ward is only two strokes out of second place, however.
Poteau got solid play out of its other golfers. Bryson Terry shot 76-73 (149), Justun Coyle finished 73-78 (151); Luke Wheat had a 94-85 (179); and Jerry Loggains shot 76-82 (162).
In the 3A tournament at Lincoln Park, Heavener’s Jacob Davis shot 89 in the first 18 holes before rallying for a 79 on the second 18 for a total of 168.
