WISTER—Caleb Speers hit a grand slam and Scotty Gibson didn’t allow a run as Wister won the 2A regional championship with a 12-0 win over Pocola.
The sixth-ranked Wildcats improve to 19-6 and advance to the state tournament next week at Shawnee High School. Pocola, which defeated Stroud, 10-6, to advance to the championship game, ends its season with a 19-7 record.
Gibson pitched all four innings of the run-rule win, striking out five and allowing three hits.
Spears was 1-1 with the four RBI and one run, Cash Balentine went 2-2 with a pair of runs, Ethan Billings was 2-3 with two RBI and a run, Seth Hill was 2-2 with two RBI and a run, Bryar Ward scored twice and went 2-2, Jake Sconyers was 1-3 with two runs and a RBI and Grant Shipman finished 1-1 with a RBI and run.
Pocola stayed alive earlier in the day by slamming three home runs in the 10-6 win over Stroud. Dillon Nguyen homered and doubled and was 2-4 with two RBI and two runs, Derek Carter homered and went 1-3 with three RBI and a run and Kyler Helms also homered in a 1-3 game with two RBI and a run.
Tatum Lomon doubled and was 1-4 with a RBI and Kyler Ree also doubled while doing 1-4 with a run. Dakota Wofford was 2-2 with a RBI and run and Cole Wofford went 2-3 with a run and a RBI.
Lomon went the first 5.2 innings to pick up the win, striking out six and allowing five hits. Ree pitched 1.1 innings with two strikeouts and one hit.
