District play opens Friday for four LeFlore County football teams while three others have a final tuneup.
Poteau and Panama will try to stay perfect in district play while Talihina (3-1) visits Pocola (1-2) to open A-8 play.
Poteau (3-0) visits Metro Christian (1-2) to open 4A-4 play on Friday as the Pirates attempt to get off to a good start in district competition. Metro is off to a slow start, but was expected to contend for the district championship in the preseason.
Panama (4-0) will also try to stay perfect and beat a Hartshorne (1-3) team which has caused problems for the Razorbacks in the past. Hartshorne defeated Wewoka last week after opening with losses to Kingston, Stigler and Eufaula.
In the only matchup between LeFlore County teams, defending district champion Talihina will try to take the first step toward another district championship when the Golden Tigers visit Pocola. In the only common opponent, Talihina defeated Poteau’s JV, 40-7, while Pocola beat Poteau’s JV, 24-12, for the Indians’ only win.
Heavener and Spiro are both at home looking for their first wins against tough competition. The Wolves (0-4) host perennial power Vian (2-2), as the Wolverines are looking to snap a two-game losing streak.
Spiro (0-3) nearly won at 3A power Stigler last week and takes on another 3A school in Eufaula (2-2) before opening district play next week.
Arkoma also has a final tuneup before the Mustangs (3-1) open district play. Arkoma hosts a 2-1 Canadian team in the only matchup this week between teams with winning records.
The final contest of Week 4 features the C-4 opener as Bokoshe (0-3) hosts Bowlegs (1-2).
