After a rough start to the 2017 LCJ/Ledger picks, we came back last week by going 6-1, losing only the Poteau JV at Pocola game.
Thanks, Poteau JV.
That puts us at 12-5 overall for the year, still behind last year’s record-breaking season, but well above the .500 mark we were flirting with after the dreadful 3-3 record for Week 1.
We feel much better, both about our record, and our picks this week. So without further Perdue (Ralph and Andy!), let’s pick!
VALLIANT AT HEAVENER—Okay, a much better chance for the Wolves this week. Hopefully Heavener waits another 80 years to make a trip to Stilwell. Both teams are winless on the season, so one should always pick the homies in this situation. Heavener celebrates homecoming! HEAVENER 21, VALLIANT 14.
DeQUEEN AT POTEAU—DeQueen is one of those split personality teams. The Leopards lost bad to Mena in the opener before defeating Arkansas power Nashville last week. Poteau has been pretty dominant this year and is averaging 58 points per game. The two teams played a close one at DeQueen last year. POTEAU 42, DeQUEEN 28.
SPIRO AT STIGLER—Spiro may be 0-2, but one must compliment the Bulldogs for playing a difficult schedule. This will be the third straight 3A team for Spiro. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the schedule gets much tougher this week. Stigler is undefeated and ranked in the top 10 in 3A. STIGLER 48, SPIRO 14.
POTEAU JV AT TALIHINA—Not the best time for any team, especially a junior varsity team, to be playing Talihina. The Golden Tigers lost at Antlers last week without several starters and are likely to be looking for blood. TALIHINA 41, POTEAU JV 14.
POCOLA AT CEDARVILLE—Okay, don’t know much about Cedarville, other than it is in Arkansas and it beat Pocola last year. The Indians showed some life last week in beating Poteau’s JV. Unfortunately, the JV stretch of the schedule is over for a while CEDARVILLE 21, POCOLA 13.
MIDWAY AT ARKOMA—Arkoma bounced back from an opening loss with two straight easy wins. We think it’s the trifecta for those Mustangs over Midway, the town, not the island. ARKOMA 58, MIDWAY 12.
GRAHAM AT BOKOSHE—Graham, the town, not the cracker, visits Bokoshe in a non-district game with the fighting Tigers still looking for a win. Not apt to happen this week, but hey, Bowlegs is coming up! GRAHAM 41, BOKOSHE 21.
