Tis a sad day around the LCJ/Ledger picks as we examine the complete and utter failure of our efforts from last week.
Egads, a 3-4 record! One of our worst ever. Gone are any hopes of topping last year’s record outcome. Now, we hope only to not get the pink slip.
Let’s see, we bombed on picking Hartshorne to defeat Panama, Spiro to beat Eufaula, Arkoma to top Canadian and Bowlegs to come out on top of Bokoshe.
That puts the overall record to 21-10 and yes, it is bad. Very bad! Was it a lack of concentration? Total ignorance? Or simply brain flatulence?
We will try and do better this week. Honest.
HEAVENER AT EUFAULA—The 3A-6 opener for both teams. Heavener is still looking for that elusive first win while Eufaula is 3-2 and coming off an easy win at Spiro. The good news for the Wolves is the defense held Vian to 24 points, with the other touchdown an interception return. The bad news is the offense was held scoreless for the first time. EUFAULA 35, HEAVENER 14.
POTEAU AT FORT GIBSON—A tough pick. Poteau is 4-0 and survived its first tough game of the season last week at Metro Christian. Fort Gibby is 2-2 with narrow losses to 5A Tahlequah and a close defeat to 4A state champion Wagoner. The Tigers destroyed Stilwell last week. Winner stays in line for a district championship. POTEAU 28, FORT GIBSON 27.
VALLIANT AT PANAMA—Another toughie. Valliant lost to Antlers last week while Panama defeated Hartshorne for the first time in a long time. Panama will be tested by the Bulldogs’ running game. But we are back on the Panama train. PANAMA 35, VALLIANT 30.
WILBURTON AT SPIRO—Looking at the records, one would tend to favor Wilburton as the Diggers are 2-2 while Spiro is 0-4. But then again, Wilburton has played three Class A teams, losing to two of them, while Spiro has played four Class 3A teams. This will be Spiro’s time to shine. SPIRO 28, WILBURTON 14.
TALIHINA AT QUINTON—We had originally picked Talihina to win this one 42-0, but then found out Quinton is forfeiting the game due to a lack of players. TALIHINA 2, QUINTON 0.
GORE AT POCOLA—An interesting game just to see if Gore is for real. The Pirates are undefeated while Pocola is in serious need of a win to keep its playoff hopes alive. GORE 30, POCOLA 21.
BOKOSHE AT COYLE—Bokoshe snapped a 24-game losing streak with a win over Bowlegs last week. Competition will get much tougher this week, however. Bokoshe will have a shot at winning more games this year, but probably not this week. COYLE 42, BOKOSHE 28.
