POCOLA—Pocola evened its record at 1-1 with a 24-12 win over Poteau’s JV on Thursday.
The Indians go to Cedarville, Ark. next week while Poteau’s JV visits Talihina on Thursday.
Kawliga Brewer caught a 25-yard pass from Tatum Lomon to open the scoring with 4:20 left in the first quarter.
Poteau threatened to score late in the first quarter before the runner fumbled while going into the end zone and Pocola’s Brewer recovered in the end zone for a touchdown.
Poteau tied the score with 10:31 left in the second quarter on a 2-yard run by Kagan Stockton. The kick failed leaving the score tied at 2.
Eric Carlton stopped a Poteau drive with an interception at the Indians’ 7 midway through the quarter. Pocola took advantage of the turnover and scored on an 8-yard run by Lomon to lead 12-6 at the half.
The Indians extended the lead to 18-6 in the third quarter on a 76-yard touchdown pass from Lomon to Carlton.
Poteau’s Cameron Duncan intercepted a pass on Pocola’s next drive, but a penalty nullified the turnover and Carlton scored on a 46-yard run on the ensuing play for a 24-6 lead.
Poteau scored its last touchdown with 56 seconds left in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard run by Jarrett Lilley.
