POTEAU–Three of the top four seeds advanced into the winner’s bracket semifinals with wins on Monday in the opening day of the fast-pitch softball LeFlore County Tournament.
Top-seeded Heavener, second-seeded Pocola and third-seeded and defending champion Poteau won. Fifth-seeded Spiro knocked off No. 4 Howe, 5-0.
In the winner’s bracket semifinals, Heavener plays Spiro while Poteau takes on Pocola at 6:30 p.m. at the PARC.
Heavener advanced with a 7-0 win over Whitesboro (see STORY) while Poteau edged Wister, 6-5, in a rematch of last year’s championship game and Pocola downed LeFlore, 8-4.
In loser’s bracket games, Arkoma and Bokoshe play at 3:30 p.m. with the winner playing LeFlore at 5 p.m. Also at 5 p.m., Wister plays Panama, Whitesboro battles Talihina and Howe is scheduled to play Cameron.
At 6:30 p.m., the Wister/Panama winner plays the winner of LeFlore’s game against the Arkoma/Bokoshe winner in game 17 while the Whitesboro/Talihina winner plays the Howe/Cameron winner in game 18.
The 8 p.m. games will have the Heavener/Spiro loser playing the game 17 winner and the Poteau/Pocola loser playing the game 18 winner.
In Monday’s early games, Howe defeated Bokoshe, 17-0; Spiro blanked Arkoma, 15-0; Wister got a shutout over Talihina, 10-0; and Whitesboro won over Panama, 9-4.
