25-year-old Indianola man dies in boat wreck

EUFAULA—A 25-year-old Indianola man died from injuries suffered in a boat accident Sunday at 11:37 p.m. near Number 9 marina, Longtown area of Lake Eufaula in Pittsburg County.

Charles Gustafson of Indianola was one of two passengers in a 2019 JBC Express 24-foot open boat driven by Michael Reagan, 25, of Eufaula, when the boat was southbound crossing under Number 9 bridge when it ran aground on west bank, struck several trees, came to rest and ejected two passengers from the vessel.

Gustafson was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Reagan was transported by Air Evac to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa where he is listed in fair condition with trunk external and head injuries.

Another passenger, Christianson Adams, 23, of McAlester was transported to McAlester Regional Health Center, where he was treated and released with a head injury.

The accident is still under investigation. The accident report lists an odor of alcohol from the driver of the boat.

No personal floatation devices were in use.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Thomas Giulioli, Trooper Ty Wallace and Trooper Cody Enloe, Trooper D.  Also assisted by Number 9 Fire Department, Pittsburg County sheriff’s office and the Choctaw Lighthorse Police Department.
