Brecheen announces candidacy

Rep. Josh Brecheen (R-Coalgate) announced Tuesday he will seek re-election for a second term as representative for Oklahoma’s 2nd Congressional District.

He maintains a commitment to serve a maximum of eight years (four terms) in the U.S. House of Representatives and was first elected in 2022. The 2nd Congressional District covers 28 counties in the eastern part of Oklahoma.

“Advocating Oklahoma values and common sense to DC is an incredible honor, and my wife and I remain committed to doing our part in turning our nation away from fiscal and moral bankruptcy,” he said.

“Inflation, driven by currency devaluation due to reckless congressional spending, is costing the average family of four $1,300 more per month as compared to January of 2021.  As my actions and voting record showcase, I remain opposed to the DC ‘uni-party’ spending spree that is selling out our nation’s future to enhance their own political futures.  I will continue to use the leverage Eastern Oklahomans have afforded me in Congress to rein in deficit spending, illegal border crossings, weaponized bureaucracies, unconstitutional policies, and that which is counter to biblical virtues,” said Brecheen.

“Restoring our founder’s vision of self-governance in tandem with a limited federal government is the way back to prosperity for our country.”

Brecheen worked during his first term to “reform Congress” as he campaigned on standing solid against the DC status quo and bringing about a restoration of spending cut amendments to the floor.  He, along with other Freedom Caucus members, authored and co-authored over $400 billion in spending cut amendments that were voted on in 2023 in an effort to restore fiscal sanity.  He has also authored measures that have passed off the House floor that would reduce spending and protect the religious liberty rights of Americans to live as their conscience dictates and not as the government dictates. The former dirt work small business owner and rancher serves on the House Budget Committee and the Homeland Security Committee.
