Burn ban issued

Burn ban issued during Monday’s meeting of the LeFlore County commissioners. Due to the lack of precipitation, a burn ban has been issued by the commissioners until further notice.

The resolution said the following:

“The Board of County commissioners, LeFlore County, state of Oklahoma, pursuant to the authority granted to the board by section 16-26.B of title 2 of the Oklahoma statutes, do hereby proclaim that extreme fire danger exists in LeFlore County. This situation has been verified by a documented concurrence of the majority of the county’s Municipal and rural fire chiefs, or their designees.

By virtue to this resolution, it is unlawful for any person to set fire to any forest, grass, range, crop or other wildlands, or to build a campfire or bonfire, or to burn trash or other material that may cause a forest grass, range, crop or other wildlands fire.

Burn ban exceptions, guidelines and precautionary measures to be taken, can be found in the supplemental version of “LeFlore County burn ban guidelines” which is available to the public by contacting LeFlore County Emergency Management or the LeFlore County Clerk’s office.

Enforcement of this resolution may be carried out by any law enforcement officer of this state. Any person convicted of violating this resolution shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be subject to a fine of not more than five hundred dollars, to imprisonment for not more than one year, or to both such fine and imprisonment.

This resolution shall be effective immediately for a period not to exceed seven days from the date of passage by the board of county commissioners. If extreme fire conditions persist, subsequent resolutions may be passed. The burn ban may be removed at anytime during the seven-day period by the same method by which it was approved.

Resolved at a meeting by the board of county commissioners at 9 a.m. the 28th day of October, 2024.”
