WISTER – Calera extended the Class 2A baseball regional at Wister an extra day with a pair of wins Saturday.
Calera opened with a 13-0 win over Panama in an elimination game, then defeated Wister, 7-6, in the first championship game to force the if game Monday.
In the win over Wister, Calera built a 7-0 lead, then had to hold off the Wildcats’ late rally as Wister scored three runs to cut the deficit to one run before Calera ended the rally.
Unlike Wister’s 10-0 win Friday, the pitchers were in control Saturday, only allowing 11 hits between the two teams.
Connar Hall started and went 1.1 innings, giving up two hits and three runs, all earned, with two strikeouts and a pair of walks, Landon Thornburg pitched 2.1 innings, giving up two hits and four runs, one earned, with three strikeouts and a walk, Dartyn Meeks went 3.1 innings and allowed two hits with five strikeouts and two walks and William Moorehead finished up, allowing two walks.
Meeks led the Wildcats at the plate, going 2-4 with two RBI and two runs.
