LeFlore County commissioners will meet in a regular business meeting 9 a.m. Tuesday in the office of the board of county commissioners.

County Commissioners approve sealed bids

County commissioners approve

County commissioners approve a notice to seek sealed bids for a surplus 2007 and a 2008 Mack truck from the District 2 inventory at Monday’s weekly meeting.

Plan revision

The board handled some routine start-of-the-year items, including revising the Emergency Operations Plan to include newly elected commissioners Vallard Campbell III and Jamie Oliver.

Oliver also was appointed to the LeFlore County KEDDO board of directors, effective Jan.3.

Dooucette appointed

Sadie Doucette was appointed deputy to the county assessor.

Larry Young was re-appointed to the Equalization and Excise Boards.

Lease approved

A lease was renewed between the county and Service Oklahoma for the space behind the courthouse annex used for driver safety and testing driver license applicants.

Kevin Merritt and Sarah Jordan were named requisitioning officers and Gail Hudson and Dusti McBeth as receiving officers to all district attorney accounts.

Poteau School Board appoints new member

Poteau School Board members appointed Troy George to fill the Seat 5 position on the board at Monday night’s meeting. George is pastor of Poteau First Baptist Church and replaces Matt McBee, who resigned earlier.

Policy approved

A policy relating to gender identification was approved. Students must use the restroom that matches the gender they were assigned at birth, or they may use a separate facility. The policy also sets disciplinary actions for misusing the policy.

Teacher recognized

Nikki Steelman, pictured, was recognized as Pansy Kidd Middle School Teacher of the Year.

Kelly Watson was named sponsor of the newly formed Rodeo Club.

Pirate football fans may get to own a piece of team history soon. The board declared some surplus items to be junked or sold, including the Costner Stadium scoreboard. Devin Cochran said he hopes the new scoreboard will be delivered by February in time for the old one to be auctioned off during the annual football awards banquet. The old softball field scoreboard and an obsolete ramp also were declared surplus.

Fundraisers, trips approved 

The board also approved several fundraisers and out-of-state trips for the coming months.

Resignations

In personnel matters, they accepted the resignations of Finance Director Valerie Martin, Vo-Ag teacher Crystal Shipman and Maintenance person Jerry Beal.

Hires

The board agreed to hire Finance Director Shannon Barnes, Head Soccer Coach Billy Adean, Aviation instructor Randy Steelman and Vo-Ag teacher Justin Payne.

Howe School Board meeting 1-9-2023

Howe School Board meeting 1-9-2023 was held Monday in the Howe Administration Building with Elvis Hall, Kenneth Barnhart, Howard Sims and Dewayne Leatherwood present.

After approving the agenda and minutes from last meeting, the Board approved general fund PO’s, building fund, sinking fund and payroll.

Superintendent report

Superintendent Scott Parks gave his report on the general fund, building fund, scholarship fund and activity fund.

Under the principals’ report, the Board discussed the driver’s ed program and pointed out there are a lot of activities going on.

Fundraiser requests

Fundraiser requests were approved for the FCCLA and girls’ basketball.

A software and support agreement with ADPC for the 2023-2024 school year was approved.

OSSBA policy

The Board approved OSSBA policy updated regarding bathroom policies.

A public hearing to allow tribal officials and parents of Native American children was tabled.

Resignation

The resignation of Andrea Dunigan was approved.

A proposed executive session regarding the employment of the superintendent for the next school year was tabled.

Plans

A discussion on ESSER II and ESSER III construction project plans concerning plans for a proposed new high school building was also presented.
