Cave Springs top Mustangs for district
Arkoma’s Deuce Walden scored 35 points, including 27 of the Mustangs’ 30 points in the second half, but Cave Springs held off Arkoma, 71-64, in the championship game of a Class A district tournament Saturday night.
Both teams advance to the regionals Saturday at Quinton. Arkoma plays Crowder at 3 p.m.
Cave Springs built a 57-43 advantage after three quarters and held off the Mustangs’ late charge.
Braylen Andrews added 11 points for Arkoma and Carl Brake grabbed 12 rebounds.
The Mustangs enter the regional tournament at 11-11. In the girls’ championship game, Keota defeated Cave Springs, 61-38.
