Commissioners agree to join lawsuit

By KEN MILAM

LeFlore County commissioners approved a resolution Monday to join a national class action suit against several major retailers for their role in the nationwide opioid addiction crisis.

The suit was brought by several states against retailers and suppliers including Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Teva and Allergan.

The board also agreed to sell a 2008 Mack truck from District 2 to District 3 for $30,000. Also approved was a deal for District 2 to trade in a 2019 Ford F-750 truck and accept bids for a smaller vehicle.

SpatCo was approved to provide a new fuel system at $39,000 for District 3 after no sealed bids were received.

Two county residents brought concerns before the board.

Clark Wood said he wanted to surface a 312-ft. road with shale to provide access to property he owns on Short Mountain Drive. District 1 Commissioner Vallard Campbell said he had spoken with Wood and the Corps of Engineers about the road. He said the Corps said Wood could put in the road, but the county then would be responsible for it. Campbell said Corps regulations are too strict and the county is not accepting new roads, but agreed to meet with both Wood and a Corps representative to discuss the problem.

Ronnie McDonald said he was concerned because someone had installed a pipe fence in the county right-of-way on Fruit Farm Road. Commission Chairman Cody Covey said he would check into the situation.

Non-collusion subcontract affidavits were approved Between the county and Kiamichi Economic District of Oklahoma for 2023 REAP grants.

Transfer of a pickup was approved from District 1 to the town of Fort Coffee.

Improvement projects were approved for Tucker Road, AES Road, 160th Street and 270th Avenue.

Purchase order and payroll were approved totaling $448,575. $473,156 had been encumbered toward the payments, leaving a $24,581 surplus adjustment.
