Commissioners approve resolutions for bids

By KEN MILAM

POTEAU – LeFlore County Commissioners acted on a brief agenda Monday morning, and heard from a faith-based group trying to expand help for homeless people in the county.

In regular business, commissioners approved resolutions to seek sealed bids for six-month highway materials and for publication of monthly commissioner proceedings for fiscal year 2022-23.

Following the meeting, Keshia Hogue told the board about Under God’s Care, a non-profit in Spiro, which is helping homeless individuals.

The group’s founder, Lameishia Phillips, also was present.

Hogue said the group exists on donations and is seeking support to aid the homeless. She said they currently are helping three or four individuals with housing and job seeking.

Hogue said many in the homeless community are ex-prisoners and veterans who need help adjusting. She said the faith-based group tries to help individuals spiritually as well as physically with shelter, food and seeking employment.
