Council names Armstrong acting city manager
By CRAIG HALL
In a special meeting Wednesday evening, the Heavener City Council named Police Chief Ty Armstrong as interim city manager to take the place of Cody Smith, until a new manager is hired.
Present were Mayor Max Roberts along with Council members Melinda Ballantine, Joey Clubb, Marvin Meredith and Jim Roll.
Smith turned in his resignation last Friday to the Council last Friday and Thursday will be his last day after serving as the city manager for seven years.
Armstrong, a long-time police chief for the city, said the move is temporary and he will mainly be needed to sign documents.
The Council also named Steve Scantling Jr. as the interim building inspector until a new city manager is hired. Scantling is also currently serving as park director for the city.
