Since this is the start of fall break Thursday, all the Week 8 football games are scheduled to be played tonight instead of Friday.
Tonight’s games involving LeFlore County teams are Heavener visiting Wilburton, Poteau travels to Sallisaw, Hugo is at Spiro, Panama hosts Gore, Pocola goes to Haskell, district leader Central Sallisaw is at Talihina and Arkoma at Gans.
Heavener is 4-3 overall and 2-2 in district play after winning at Hugo last week. Wilburton is 0-7 and 0-4, but has been a much better team at home than on the road.
Poteau will try to remain undefeated at a resurgent Sallisaw squad. Poteau is 7-0 and 4-0 while Sallisaw, which had not won a district game in the previous two years coming into this year, is 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the district. After nearly knocking off undefeated Idabel last week, Spiro will attempt to stay in the middle of the playoff race when the Bulldogs host a talented Hugo team.
Spiro 4-3 and 2-2 while Hugo is 2-5 and 2-2. After losing its first district game last week, Panama has another tough test this week as the Razorbacks host Gore, which lost its first regular season game in two years last week against Central.
Panama is 4-3 and 3-1. Gore is 6-1 and 3-1.
Pocola is on a roll after losing two straight district games to Central and Gore. The Indians bounced back with the blowout win over rival Panama. The Indians are 4-3 and 2-2 while Haskell is 2-5 and 1-3.
Talihina (4-3 and 2-2) will try to remain in the running for a playoff spot and to pull off a huge upset when the Golden Tigers host undefeated and district leading Central Sallisaw (7-0 and 4-0).
Arkoma (1-6 and 0-2) will try to snap a six-game losing streak when the Mustangs make the short trip to Gans (2-4 and 0-2.
