Experience the magic of ‘Jazz at the Museum’

By TERRY JOE WILES

You better get there early for a good seat tonight! The small vibrant room at the LeFlore County Museum at Hotel Lowery will hold a few more than the 35 to 40 that were there last month. We will find you a seat.

It’s a best chance to hear something a little different than your usual country or rock. The monthly “Jazz at the Museum” will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m., performed by “The Al Grzesh Trio” featuring vocalist Nikki Waters. It’s about 90 minutes of popular show tunes and jazz that you will recognize and enjoy. The band is hot, and Nikki’s delivery is a joy. Al Grzech/Piano-bass, David Hoffpauir/guitar and usually Dale Fraze Sr./drums will play the tunes lightly or lowdown, and set the mood for Nikki to entertain. This is the icing on the cake. The mini concert is free to the public but tips are accepted.

The lobby at the LeFlore County Museum at Hotel Lowery has been restored to the original decor. David and Donna Deaton and crew make this a place of memories, and they have exhibits for all things LeFlore County. Check for a schedule. The Deatons put on this event, and the museum provides drinks and snacks. Bring your friends and become regulars at the Poteau’s offering of live music tonight. It’s the best!

Here’s some news about an upcoming fundraiser. It was a joy to get to listen to and be a part of a fundraiser last Saturday. It was a good way for me to give back to other families of Panama students that go to help cover the cost of their medical expenses from the car wreck back in September. The turnout was good, and folks from Panama dig deep and are charitable until it hurts, so it should help the students and families.

As always, several bands and singers volunteered their talents and did a great job. This area’s musicians can always be counted on for fundraisers, fish fries and pie suppers. “Live Wire” featuring Felicia McKenzie, “Kodey Toney and Family,” Ben Whiteaker, Landon Kole Bradley and Kary Middleton played and sang their hearts out. There’s still a way to donate. For additional information, call Brian Simpson at (479) 883-7031.

“Wes is More” will play at Muldrow City Limits this Saturday night, starting at 7 p.m. There’s always a good crowd, about 100-plus, so get there early for a good seat. Wesley Trout cherry picks the area’s best musicians, plays the very best in country dance songs, and you never know what instrument that he’ll be playing. So get out there and just see. Shelia and David invite you to come enjoy yourselves at this NS/ND dance hall. Remember, it starts at 7 p.m. Saturday.

I’ve got “The Tribadours” down for playing at Taco Tuesday over at Joe’s Cantina in Fort Smith, Arkansas next Tuesday. I’m just giving you all a heads up. Catch the band’s show.

That ain’t all I got to say, but it’s a good place to stop.

Thank y’all for this chance to be a part of live music.
