Heavener sweeps doubleheader at Okmulgee

Heavener failed to get a hit in Tuesday’s loss to undefeated Eufaula.

That wasn’t a problem Wednesday as the Lady Wolves’ District 3A-8 doubleheader at Okmulgee Wednesday, which had been postponed earlier in the season.

Heavener rallied in the final inning to win the first game, 16-8, before completing the sweep with a 23-13 victory in the second game.

Heavener is 10-8 overall, 2-6 in district play. Okmulgee is 1-14 and 0-7. The Lady Wolves visit Savanna Friday.

Game One

In the opener, Heavener jumped ahead 8-0, before Okmulgee scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score before the Lady Wolves added eight runs in the top of the seventh while holding the hosts scoreless in the bottom half of the inning.

Britlee Reed was the winning pitcher for Heavener. She went the distance, allowing 10 hits and the eight runs, four earned with five strikeouts and seven walks.

Reed also led Heavener’s offense, tripling and doubling while going 3-6 with four runs scored and a RBI, Meredith Smith homered and doubled while finishing 2-3 with three RBI and two runs, Kristy Shadwick went 2-5 with three RBI and three runs, Haylee Morrison had a 2-4 outing with a run and a RBI and Kelsey Morrison was 2-5 with a RBI and a run.

Game Two

After Okmulgee scored five runs in the top of the sixth to take a 13-11 lead, Heavener answered with 12 runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the 23-13 win by run-rule.

Shadwick got the win for Heavener. She went the distance giving up 12 hits and 13 runs, all earned, with seven strikeouts and 10 walks.

Reed doubled and went 3-4 with four RBI and four runs, Hayley Morrison was 3-6 with two runs and a RBI, Zaidi May went 3-4 with three runs and two RBI, Shadwick helped her cause by going 2-3 with four runs and two RBI, Meredith Smith finished 2-4 with two RBI and a run, JaLyn Hash went 2-5 with three runs and two RBI and Kelsey Morrison was 2-6 with three RBI and a run as Heavener finished with 20 hits in the second game.
