Heavener opens District 2A-3 football play 7 p.m. Saturday at Hugo.

Both teams are 2-1 and looking to pick up a win that could make the difference once the postseason rolls around

Heavener is trying to bounce back from last week’s loss to Charleston, Arkansas when the Wolves make the trip to Hugo for the second straight season after the redistricting.

The Wolves rallied from behind last year for a 36-27 win, a victory that helped send the Wolves to the playoffs for the first time since 2011. It was Heavener’s first win over Hugo in a series the Buffaloes lead, 5-1.

Unlike last week when Jaxon Armstrong was out with an injury, Heavener is expected to have most of its players back against the Buffaloes. Hugo has defeated Valliant and Dickson after a loss to Honey Grove, Texas, in the season opener.

Barring technical difficulties, for anybody who can’t make the game, it will be livestreamed on the Heavener School Facebook page and the school’s Youtube channel.

Heavener, which will have played three of its first four games on the road after this week, will return to Harvey Stadium next week to host Prague in another district contest.

It will be only the second meeting between the two schools as Prague defeated Heavener, 41-7, in the opening round of the 1973 playoffs.
