KEDDO Area Agency on Aging is making a dedicated effort to educate the public on Elder Abuse Prevention and one way to reach this goal is to recruit Ombudsman Volunteers to visit and educate residents, family and staff in long-term care facilities.
Every year an estimated 2.1 million older Americans are victims of elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation. That is only part of the picture: Experts believe that for every case of elder abuse or neglect reported, five cases go unreported.
Elder abuse happens, but everyone can act to protect seniors.
The Holiday season is over and people have made their News Year Resolution. This year the Ombudsman Supervisors for
Ombudsmen are advocates for residents who live in long-term care facilities and help resolve problems between residents and staff. As advocates for the residents, volunteers ensure the residents’ rights are upheld while receiving dignified, quality care.
All volunteers receive specific training in the field of Residents’ Rights, communication and problem-solving. Volunteers must be willing to dedicate two hours per week to facility visitation and a monthly ombudsman meeting.
