Ninth-seeded Sooners open with ORU

NORMAN — The field is set for the NCAA Norman Regional as the 2024 NCAA Baseball Championship seedings were announced Monday morning.

Oklahoma (37-19) was selected as the No. 9 overall seed and will host Duke (39-18), UConn (32-23) and Oral Roberts (27-30-1) at L. Dale Mitchell Park this weekend.

OU is making its third straight and 41st overall appearance in the NCAA tournament.

“The accomplishment of what we did all year is really big,” said head coach Skip Johnson. “Winning the conference the way we won the conference and getting a regional.

“We’re going to go out and get after it and have fun.”

This weekend’s regional marks the third time in program history OU has hosted a regional at L. Dale Mitchell Park and the first since 2010.

The Sooners previously hosted in 2006, ’09 and ’10. The stadium opened in 1982 after the Sooners had twice hosted a regional at Haskell Park in 1975 and 1977. OU had also hosted NCAA regionals in Oklahoma City.

The Sooners will open play Friday night at 6 p.m. CT vs. four-seed Oral Roberts. Two-seed Duke and three-seed UConn will meet Friday at noon.

The two losing teams from Friday meet at 2 p.m. Saturday, followed by Friday’s winners matching up at 8 p.m. Saturday evening. Sunday’s games will also be at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday’s if-necessary game time is to be determined. All times Central.

Friday’s games can be seen via ESPN+ and heard locally in Oklahoma on SportsTalk 1400 AM/99.3 FM or nationwide on The Varsity app. The TV schedule the remainder of the weekend is TBD.

The winner of this weekend’s regional will advance to the NCAA Super Regional round against the winner of the Tallahassee Regional, hosted by eight-seed Florida State featuring Alabama, UCF and Stetson.

Eight teams will advance out of Supers to Omaha, Neb., for the 2024 Men’s College World Series, June 14-24.
