Obituary for Dick Roberts of Heavener
James Richard “Dick” Roberts of Heavener was born Oct. 24, 1935 in the Forest Hill Community in Howe to Jesse and Atha (Autrey) Roberts and passed away July 28, 2024 in Heavener at the age of 88.
Funeral service is 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2024 at the Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with Cody Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Heavener Memorial Park, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
Dick was a long-time resident of the area. He attended Heavener High School and Carl Albert Junior College. Dick was a foreman on maintenance of way for the Kansas City Southern Railroad. He was a veteran, where he served in the United States Army during peacetime. Dick loved gardening and was a proud supporter of Heavener athletics. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Dick will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Roberts, of the home; two daughters Sheila Kirby and husband Cody of Heavener, and Lori Wilson and husband Greg of Poteau; two sisters Phyllis Hairgrove of Cushing and Shearolyn Mahan of Krebs; six grandchildren Jedd Kirby and wife Whitney, Caleb Kirby and wife Tiffaney, Katelyn McGee and husband Scott, Brock Wilson and wife Amy
Allie Craig and husband Chad, and Kyle Wilson and wife Ashley; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom loved him very much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Atha Roberts; and a brother, Tommie Dale Roberts.
Pallbearers are his grandsons.
Viewing is from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, noon until 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 9 a.m. until service time, Monday at the funeral home.
The family will visit with friends on Monday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 5 at the funeral home.
