Obituary for Doyle Harvell

Doyle “Coach” Wayne Harvell, 74, of Heavener was born Aug. 17, 1948 in Muldrow to Delmar Bee and Odell (Dawes) Harvell and passed away March 10, 2023 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Saturday at the Heavener High School Gymnasium in Heavener, with Brother Sam Dyer and Marcus Blair officiating. Burial will be in Heavener Memorial Park, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.

He was a longtime resident of the area and a member of Freedom House Fellowship Church. Coach Harvell was the line coach and defensive coordinator for Sand Springs High School football team from 1983-1991. Then he moved to Heavener, where he became head football coach at Heavener High School from 1991-2002. He loved watching football, fishing, hunting and holding his chair down. Coach also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Coach Harvell will be missed by all whom loved and knew him.

He is survived by one daughter Shelley Roberts and husband Bruce of Catoosa; two sons Rusty Harvell of Heavener and Darren Harvell of Wagoner; one brother Jerry Harvell and wife Mary Jane of Heavener; eight grandchildren Tori Smith, Cole Roberts, Madison Harvell, Caleb Roberts, Jayce Roberts, Harley Harvell, Ayrees Harvell and Akoa Harvell; one great-grandchild:

Carley Roberts; one niece Lacy Long and husband Michael of Ft. Worth, Texas; one nephew

Cody Harvell and wife Debronna of Ft. Worth, Texas; numerous cousins, other loved ones and a host of many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Delmar and Odell Harvell; his wife, Janet Harvell; one son, Chad; and one granddaughter, Cheyenne.

Pallbearers are Billy Vaughn, Eric Dehart, Michael Rowland, Todd Vickers, Dusty Alexander and Nathan Janway. Honorary pallbearers are Justin Frizzell and Adam Dehart

Viewing is Wednesday from noon to 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
