Jimmy Ray Elder of the Glendale community was born Sept. 25, 1967 in Oklahoma City to Harry Eugene and Thirl Evon (Lee) Elder and passed away Oct. 3, 2024 at his home at the age of 57.
Funeral service is 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with Denton Mead officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery in the Glendale community, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
Jimmy was a long-time resident of the area and was a maintenance supervisor for Oklahoma State Department of Tourism and Recreation at Robbers Cave for 30 years. He loved get togethers, making sorghum, pilfering on his farm, and restoring farm implements. Jimmy also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all whom loved and knew him.
Survivors are his wife, Lisa Elder, of the home; a daughter, Amanda Elder, of Howe; three sisters
Nancy Fergot of Tulsa, Retha Luce and husband Carl of Heavener, and Janet DeLaughter of McAlester; three brothers Larry Elder and wife Donna of Tulsa, Paul Elder and wife Tanya of Howe, and Dave Elder and wife Jodi of Howe; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other loved ones, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, James Ray Elder; one brother, Joe Elder; and one brother-in-law, Zane DeLaughter.
Pallbearers are Brett Labor, Dustin Vaughn, Vic Davison, Cliff Morgan, Bobby Braly and Aron Maib. Honorary pallbearers are Von Mead and Bill Cecil.
Viewing is from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday with the family visiting with friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
