Funeral service is 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hontubby Baptist Church with Reverend David Hardin officiating. Burial will follow in the Hontubby Cemetery, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
Manuel was raised in Hontubby and attended Hontubby School until his freshman year, and then attended Heavener High School, where he met the love of his life, Coleen Childers. They graduated in 1954 and were married Dec. 5, 1954. Manuel and Coleen moved to Tulsa, where he went to work as a machinist. In 1964, they moved to Owasso, where he started his career with the United States Postal Service, retiring with 35 years in 1999. Manuel and Coleen raised their four children in Owasso and he was noted for being a founder of the Future of Owasso RAMS Little league Sports Programs. In 1983, they returned to Heavener and built their home in Hontubby, where Manuel grew up. Manuel worked for the United States Postal Service for Howe Post Office as a rural mail carrier until 1999.
After retirement, he became involved with the Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief Team and loved it. He was a true people person, who loved serving, giving, never complained, never worried, never needed nor wanted. He loved to tell stories, a great joke teller, and he had a sense of humor.
