Thomas Jasper Wright, 86, was welcomed into the arms of his Savior Oct. 20, 2024 in Gainesville, Georgia with his wife of 60 years, Marilyn, their children and grandchildren, by his side.

A Celebration of Life Service is 11 a.m. Nov. 16 at Altha First Baptist with lunch to follow.

Thomas was born April 30, 1938 in Hodgen and grew up in Heavener. His final years were spent in Gainesville Georgia, but his favorite place to live was Calhoun County, Florida, along the banks of the Chipola River.

After serving in the Navy, Thomas began work in commercial construction. This career, spanning six decades, took him around the United States. While his projects helped change the skyline of Atlanta, he was most proud of the Northwest Beaches International Airport Project in Panama City, Florida. In addition to a successful career, Thomas was also a devoted family man. He loved gathering his family together for cookouts and would celebrate everything. He loved to sing, dance, read, travel and was an avid history buff, as well.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Sullivan Wright, of Gainesville, Georgia; his daughters Mary Helen Barrs (Scott) of Gainesville and Sheila Thomas of Cumming, Georgia; sister Anne Marchant; granddaughters Maura Barrs of Gainesville, Maeve Barrs of Gainesville and Megan Head (Chris) of Montgomery, Alabama; and grandson Michael Thomas (Stephanie) of Houston, Texas and other extended family.

Thomas was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Wright, Jr.; his parents, Holland and Agnes Wright; and siblings Pam Hunt, David Wright and Mitchell Wright.
