William Maurice Pope of Wister was born Feb.15, 1939 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Winford and Maurice Adelaide (Ladd) Pope and passed away Nov. 16, 2024 at his home at the age of 85.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener, with Reverend Shawn Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery in the Glendale community under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
William was a long-time resident of the area and was a field technician for AOG. He loved spending time with his family and friends. William was a veteran, where he served in the United States Navy during peacetime. He will be deeply missed by all whom loved and knew him.
Surviving family members are one daughter, Rhonda Elder, of Poteau; one son, Kenneth Pope, of Grand Prairie, Texas; two brothers Gary Pope of Knoxville, Tennessee and Fred Trickett of Highland, California; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loved ones, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Loretta Sue Pope; one son, Jack Pope; two sisters Joann Blankenship and Sandra Teague; and one brother, Lonnie Pope.
Pallbearers are his family
William will lie in state from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
