KANSAS CITY, Missouri – The Oral Roberts women picked up their 15th win of the season, topping the Kansas City Roos 74-61. Their win marked the Golden Eagles’ first back-to-back 15+ win seasons since 2018-19 and 2019-20.
Taleyah Jones led the ORU offense, scoring 21 points while recording four rebounds, four assists and one block. Makyra Tramble followed behind Jones, scoring 13 points on 4-8 shooting from the field, knocking down two threes on the night. Jalei Oglesby from Howe and Ruthie Udoumoh scored 12 and 10 points while Oglesby came up just shy of a double-double securing nine rebounds. Meghan Weinrich came up big for the Golden Eagles down the stretch, logging nine points, seven rebounds and six steals on the night.
The Roos made two quick baskets to put the Golden Eagles down 0-4 before Ruthie Udoumoh scored ORU’s first points of the game, scoring a layup. One more layup from Udoumoh left ORU in a four-point (4-8) hole but Taleyah Jones caught fire, knocking down two straight jumpers which left the Golden Eagles down 8-1 with 4:46 to play in the first. Jalei Oglesby and Meghan Weinrich each traded baskets before Jones capped off the first with a deep three as ORU trailed 15-17 after the first.
Six different Golden Eagles scored points in the second quarter, racking up a game-high 22 points in the second. A Makyra Tramble triple with 7:16 left in quarter two, leveled the score at 22 before ORU sparked a 6-0 run to earn their first lead of the game (28-24). Six Kansas City turnovers and a 7-8 performance from the charity stripe helped ORU regain the lead (37-35) heading into halftime.
ORU began the second half on a 7-0 run, holding the Roos scoreless for the first 3:40 of the third quarter. Both teams lived at the line in the third, with ORU shooting 75% (6-8) from the stripe to UMKC’s 30.0% (3-10). Kansas City won the rebounding battle 10-6 over ORU in the quarter but the Golden Eagles prevailed, leading 54-58 heading into the final ten minutes of action.
Ruthie Udoumoh and Jalei Oglesby opened the fourth quarter with a layup and a jump shot. As we hit the first media timeout of the quarter, ORU led 60-54 after Taleyah Jones sunk two free throws. Makyra Tramble made a massive layup with 2:48 to go, giving ORU an eight-point advantage (67-59). Taleyah Jones sealed the game, knocking down a pair of free throws to give the Golden Eagles their 15th win of the season and fifth of Summit League play.
