Oklahoma State women opened play on Friday at the Daytona Beach Classic with a 70-56 win over Arkansas in basketball at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center.
The Cowgirls, who improved to 7-0 on the year, opened on a 7-0 run capped by a 3-pointer from Micah Gray. Enduring a stretch that saw OSU hit two of its 12 shots from the floor, the Cowgirls maintained a 16-11 advantage down the stretch in the frame after holding the Razorbacks to just two field goals through the game’s first nine minutes.

Despite shooting just 30 percent from the floor, the Cowgirls held an 18-16 lead through the game’s first 10 minutes.
Arkansas knotted the score at 18 apiece a minute into the second period and again a minute later before Gray hit a layup and Praise Egharevba converted an old-fashioned three-point play to put OSU back in front, 25-20.
The Razorbacks would once again tie the game at 27-27 with four minutes left in the half. However, OSU would answer with the next four to take a 31-27 lead with two minutes to go.
The Cowgirls would take a 33-31 lead at the break.
OSU would open with nine of the first 11 points in the third quarter to extend to a 42-33 margin three minutes into the frame.
The Cowgirls would push the margin to double digits on a Stailee Heard layup at the six minute mark. OSU would take advantage of three Arkansas turnovers over a minute-plus span and used the 6-0 run to extend its lead to 54-40 to close out the period.
The Razorbacks would get within single digits at 62-53 with a pair of free throws with 3:18 to go in the contest. Their next trip resulted in a 3-pointer to get within six 38 seconds later.
Gray and Jadyn Wooten would answer with consecutive layups on OSU’s next two possessions to stop the run. Gray would add another basket to make it a 6-0 run in just over a minute to put the game away.
Heard finished with her second double-double of the year, grabbing 11 rebounds to go with her 16 points, while Wooten finished with a career-high 16 points. Gray also finished in double figures with 13 points.
OSU will close out the event Saturday when it takes on Richmond at 4:45 p.m.
