Poteau stays perfect by sweeping Stilwell

STILWELL – Poteau swept a doubleheader from Stilwell Saturday to improve to 5-0 overall.

The Pirates won the opener, 17-4, before completing the sweep with a 15-1 win in the second game.

Poteau is scheduled to be back in action Monday at Red Oak.

In the opener, Poteau started fast and ended strong, scoring six times in the first inning and eight in the final inning.

Coby Bell was the winning pitcher, going six innings, allowing only two hits and four runs, two earned, with a walk and five strikeouts. Pierce. Ballard threw one inning, walking one and striking out one.

Dax Collins tripled and was 3-4 with two runs and two RBI, Logan Walker went 3-5 with three runs and two RBI, Calloway Warren finished 2-4 with four RBI and a run, Jagger Dodson had a 2-5 outing with two runs, Holden Mattox was 2-2 with a run and a RBI, Bell doubled and went 1-5 with a run and a RBI.

The second game also got out of control early as the Pirates jumped ahead, 5-1, in the first inning and added eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game away.

Aidan Sockey got the win for Poteau, pitching four innings and allowing four hits and a run with two walks and six strikeouts. Wesley Garrett finished up, going an inning with two walks and a strikeout.

Collins had another big game at the plate, hitting a home run and going  2-2 with four RBI and four runs, Walker was 2-2 with two runs scored, Mattox tripled while going 1-3 with a RBI, Bell doubled and went 1-3 with a run and a RBI, Sockey doubled and went 1-3 with a RBI and Warren doubled while doing 1-2 with a RBI and a run.
