On a night of big games in Week 9, Poteau showed it was still the king of District 4A-4, Heavener defeated Spiro and Pocola also clinched a playoff spot and Panama came up short in its showdown with Central Sallisaw.

Ada visited Poteau in a battle between two undefeated teams, but the Pirates continued their dominance in 4A-4 with a 40-7 victory over the Cougars to clinch the district championship and home field during the first two rounds of the playoffs.

The Pirates are now 9-0 and 6-0 in the district going into next week’s game at Stilwell. Ada, one of the storied schools in Oklahoma football, falls to 8-1 and 5-1.

Heavener clinched its first playoff appearance since 2011 with a win over county rival Spiro, 24-21. The Wolves are 6-3 and 4-2 while Spiro is 5-4 and 3-3. Heavener visits Antlers next week while Spiro hosts winless Wilburton.

Pocola clinched a playoff spot with a 68-6 victory over Porter in the Indians’ senior night. With the win, the Indians are in a three-way tie for second place along with Gore and Panama. The playoff seedings will be determined by district playoff points. After Friday’s games, Gore has 35 points to finish second, Panama has 33 for third and Pocola is fourth with 30. All three have games next week that will likely not impact the final standings as Gore is at Porter, Panama is at Haskell and Pocola goes to Talihina.

Pocola is 6-3 and 4-2 while Porter drops to 3-6 and 2-4.

Panama’s efforts to hand Central Sallisaw came up short as the Tigers clinched the district with a 20-8 win over the Razorbacks. The Razorbacks are 5-4 and 4-2 in the district while Central improves to 9-0 and 6-0.

Arkoma’s struggles returned as Keota manhandled the Mustangs, 48-0. Arkoma is 2-7 and 1-3 while district champion Keota ups its record to 5-4 and 4-0.

Talihina got a forfeit in its game Thursday at Canadian. The Golden Tigers are 5-4 and 3-3 while Canadian is 1-7 and 0-6.
