In a possible match-up of a next week’s semifinal game, second-seeded Spiro held off third-seeded Heavener for a 48-41 win to complete a sweep of Friday’s two games.
Earlier, Spiro’s girls jumped out to a big lead early and downed the Lady Wolves, 56-29.
Heading into the LCT, Heavener’s boys are 8-5 and Spiro is 5-6. For the girls, Spiro is 10-2 and Heavener is 6-7.
Both boys’ teams have a bye in the first round of the LCT. The Wolves play the Howe and Arkoma winner 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Arkoma. The Bulldogs play the Poteau and Whitesboro winner 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Arkoma. The Lady Wolves take on Wister 4 p.m. Monday at Cameron. The Lady Bulldogs get a first-round bye and play the Whitesboro and Arkoma winner 4 p.m. Tuesday at Arkoma.
Girls
Spiro built a 30-9 lead at the half and coasted to the easy win over Heavener, unlike the much more competitive 44-39 win to open the season.
Boys
Spiro improved to 2-0 over Heavener this year in basketball after being swept by the Wolves last season.
The Bulldogs grabbed a 6-point lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained the lead throughout. Heavener did cut Spiro’s lead to 27-25 in the third quarter before the Bulldogs scored six straight to get an 8-point lead.
