Stigler sweeps homecoming games from Heavener
By CRAIG HALL
STIGLER – Stigler celebrated its basketball homecoming Friday night by sweeping a pair of basketball games from Heavener in Black Diamond Conference games.
The boys played first and the Panthers took control early in downing the Wolves, 53-34, before Stigler’s girls outscored Heavener, 16-4, in the final period after trailing after three quarters to take a 45-35 victory.
Heavener plays its final home game Monday against Pocola before playing its district tournaments at Spiro Saturday.
Boys
Stigler built a large lead early and Heavener never really threatened the Panthers’ lead in the opener.
The Panthers built a 30-17 advantage at the half and continued to build their lead in the second half.
Landon Thurman led Heavener, now 17-4, with 18 points. Stigler improves its record to 12-9.
Girls
After getting blown out by Stigler earlier in the season, Heavener’s girls gave the Lady Panthers almost more than they could handle.
Heavener held a 31-29 lead going into the fourth quarter and led 33-29 before Stigler went on a run in the final quarter, many of those points scored off free throws. Stigler was 7-13 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter while the Lady Wolves were 0-2.
Ava Cartwright led Heavener, 6-14, with 13 points and Mariana Garcia added 10. Stigler is now 9-10.
