Spiro’s Gannon Shackelford was named the defensive player of the year for District 3A-7 baseball this spring.

He is joined by Jared Huff and Blake Dedmon, also from Spiro, along with Heavener’s Gunnar McAlester and Trevor Grubbs.

The 2022 Howe girls’ basketball camp is May 23-25 and is open to all students entering the fourth through the ninth grade.

The cost is $50 and each camper will receive a t-shirt.

In today’s weather forecast showers and thunderstorms are possible early Saturday with partly cloudy skies later in the day for the LeFlore County weather forecast.

Funeral service for David Alfred Bullard, 74 of Wister is 10 a.m. Monday at Church of God Seventh Day in Wister with Lamar Ford and Chip Hinds officiating. Burial will follow at Maxey Cemetery in Wister, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home.

David was born June 30, 1947 in Wister and passed away May 11, 2022 in Wister.  

Funeral service for Alva Faye Hesson, 84 of Pocola is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mallory-Martin Chapel in Spiro. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Pocola, under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.

She was born Jan. 22, 1938 in Hunnington, Arkansas and passed away May 13, 2022 in Pocola.

The anticipation had been building the last few weeks for the PGA Championship, just like it was for the Masters. And just like the last major, the hype was more about who played than who had a chance to win.

Phil Mickelson won’t even make it to the first tee at Southern Hills.

Six days before the opening round on the classic course in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mickelson decided not to defend his title and extend his three-month hiatus from golf.

Oklahoma’s Pardon and Parole Board was so focused on releasing inmates that it cut corners and ignored internal processes that ultimately led to the release of an inmate who was later charged with three counts of first-degree murder, according to a grand jury report released this week.

The final report released Thursday by the Oklahoma County Grand Jury, which was requested in October by Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater, covered several investigations, including a probe into a Catoosa tag agency that led to felony charges against a sitting state lawmaker and his wife.
