LeFlore County Commissioners acted on a brief agenda Monday morning, and heard from a faith-based group trying to expand help for homeless people in the county.

In regular business, commissioners approved resolutions to seek sealed bids for six-month highway materials and for publication of monthly commissioner proceedings for fiscal year 2022-23.

The north boys and south girls won the 2022 senior basketball all-star games at Howe Monday night.

The south girls, consisting of five Howe seniors and Laney Kinsworthy of Talihina, totally dominated the opener, roaring out to a 20-4 lead by the end of the first quarter, and increasing the margin to 31-6 at the half.

Shiloh Fletcher of Howe was the MVP for the south while Mika Scott of Pocola came away with the MVP award for the north.

The second game was much closer as the north broke a tie with 1:12 remaining and held on for a 68-65 victory.

Bryce Tackett of Panama was the MVP for the winners while Howe’s Ky Lynn was named the MVP for the south.

In today’s weather forecast, look for scattered thunderstorms during the morning hours with more showers and thunderstorms possible overnight in LeFlore County Tuesday with up to two inches of rain expected.

The high will be 73 degrees with a low of 62 degrees.

Sunrise is 6:08 a.m. Sunset is 8:22 p.m.

Averages temperatures for May 24 are a high of 83 and a low of 60. Record temperatures for the date were a high of 95 in 2000 and a record low of 52 in 1999.                                                                              

On May 24, 2021, the high was 80 with a low of 69.

Monday’s high was 71 with a low of 61.

Funeral service for Alva Hesson is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mallory-Martin Chapel in Spiro. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Pocola, under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.

She was born Jan. 22, 1938 and passed away May 13, 2022 in Pocola.

Service for Roger Myers 10 a.m. Tuesday at Victory Worship Center in Spiro with Reverend Jake Black and Reverend Bryan Fouts officiating.

Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Panama, under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Spiro.

He was born Nov. 7, 1948 in Seminole and passed away May 20, 2022 in Spiro.

Poteau Evening Lions Club meet 6 p.m. CASC

John Ray Dunigan was born Feb. 9, 1946 in Cove, Arkansas.  He departed this life May 21, 2022 at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 12 days.

Funeral services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Hutchins-Maples Matherly Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow at Bristow City Cemetery

Funeral service for Harvey Doyle Spangler, 79, of Pocola is 10 a.m. Saturday at Evans Memorial Chapel in Pocola with Brother Kane Riggs officiating.

Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Pocola, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home in Pocola.

He was born May 21, 1942 in Boswell and passed away May 20, 2022 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
