Unemployment rate drops in December

Unemployment rates dropped in December from the previous year in 55 counties, rose in 12 and were the same in 10, according to the latest report from the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission.

Latimer County had the highest unemployment rate in the state at 5 percent. Haskell and Pushmataha were second. Dewey County had the lowest rate at 1.5 percent.

LeFlore County’s rate for the month was 3.5 percent, down from 4.1 percent the previous year. The rate was also lower than the 3.6 percent in November.

The county had the 58th highest unemployment rate in the state. For December, the county had a work force of 20,211. Of that figure, 19,505 were employed while 706 were out of work.

In November, the work force was 20,251 with 19,524 employed and 727 unemployed.
