Unemployment rates continue to increase

Unemployment rates were up in 73 counties compared to last year, down in three and unchanged in one county, according to the latest report by the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission for July.

Latimer and McIntosh posted the highest rate in the state at 6.7 percent while Haskell and Seminole had the second highest. Dewey and Cimarron had the lowest rate at 2.2 percent.

LeFlore County’s rate for the month was 6.7 percent, up slightly from the 6.6 percent in June. The rate was 5.8 percent in May and 4.9 percent last July.

The county has the 62nd highest rate in Oklahoma.

The labor force for July was 20,733 with 19,750 employed and 963 out of work. In June, the labor force was 20,834 with 19,842 employed and 992 people out of work.
