Unemployment rates rise in April

Unemployment rates were up for most of Oklahoma in April, according to the latest report by the Oklahoma Employment Securities Commission.

McIntosh County posted Oklahoma’s highest rate of 5.2 percent, Latimer was second and Seminole County was third. Dewey and Grant Counties had the lowest unemployment rate of 1.8 percent for the month.

Unemployment rates in April were higher than the previous year in 75 counties, lower in one and unchanged in one.

LeFlore County’s rate in April was 3.8 percent, down from 4.0 percent in March, 4.9 percent in February and up from the 2.9 percent from the previous April.

The county has the 64th highest percentage of Oklahoma’s 77 counties. For the month, LeFlore County had a work force of 20,221 with 19,462 employed and 759 out of work. In March, the workforce totaled 20,254, with 19,452 employed and 802 out of work.
