Week 10

Week 10 football games will determine playoff spots for Heavener and Poteau, determine if Talihina wins a district championship and if Panama gets into the playoffs.

Pocola’s home game with Haskell and Panama’s game at Hartshorne both have been moved up to 6 p.m. Friday, trying to beat an incoming storm. Spiro moved its game to Thursday and lost at Antlers.

District after week 9

The easiest district to figure out the final playoff spot is 2A-3 featuring Bethel at Heavener. The winner of that game finishes in fourth place in the district and qualifies for the playoffs. A Heavener win would send the Wolves to the playoffs for back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2004.

Heavener is 5-4 and 3-3 after last week’s loss to Kiefer. Bethel is 4-5 and  3-3. This will be the first meeting between the two schools.

Poteau also faces a must-win game at Broken Bow to qualify for the playoffs in the fourth spot out of District 4A-4. The Pirates have made the playoffs 12 straight seasons, dating back to 2012. Both Poteau and Broken Bow lost last week.

Poteau is 5-4 and 3-3 while the Savages are 6-3 and 4-2. Ada defeated Sallisaw Thursday, 40-14, to win the district championship. Hilldale should be third, provided the Hornet beat Tulsa McClain, which stunned Broken Bow last week.

If the Pirates defeat Broken Bow, they get in due to the head-to-head win. Poteau also defeated McClain so a win sends Poteau back to the playoffs and a likely first-round game at Wagoner.

After Regent Prep defeated Talihina last week it threw District A-2 into a three-way tie for the district lead between those two teams and Central. Talihina has the edge due to playoff points and will go into the playoffs as district champs if the defeat Mounds by at least 12 points.

Panama (5-4 and 3-3) must win at Hartshorne (7-2 and 4-2) and have Warner lose to district champion Rejoice Christian. A loss knocks Panama out of the playoffs.

Pocola is in the playoffs as a second seed, as long as the Indians are not upset at home by Haskell. The Indians are 7-2 and 5-1 with a one-game lead over Hartshorne and Warner, two teams Pocola beat earlier in the season. The Haymakers are 3-6 and 2-4 and out of the playoffs.

Arkoma has been eliminated from the playoffs.  The Mustangs (4-4 and 1-2) close at home with Copan, (8-1 and 3-1).
