Week 6 features big showdowns

For the first time this season, all the LeFlore County High School football teams will be in district play this week.

Pocola, now 4-2 and 2-1, got the week off to an early start Thursday, with a 60-16 win over Hulbert, now 1-4 and 1-3.

In other games Friday, Poteau tries to bounce back from a rare district loss last week to Ada when the Pirates, 3-2 and 1-1, host winless Glenpool.

Heavener recovered from two straight losses to pound Prague, 37-6, last week to improve to 3-2 and 1-1. This week, the Wolves visit Roland (1-4 and 1-1) with the lone victory coming over winless Okmulgee. This will be the first meeting between the Wolves and Rangers since 2021. Head-to-head, Heavener is looking to down Roland for the first time since a 20-13 overtime win in 2013.

The Heavener and Roland game will be livestreamed on the school’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Spiro hosts Wilburton as both teams are looking for their first win of the season as both teams are 0-5 and 0-2.

In what is probably the biggest game of the week, Panama (4-1 and 2-0) will try to remain atop the district standings when the Razorbacks host Rejoice Christian, also 4-1 and 2-0 after defeating Pocola, 47-40 at home last week.

Talihina (5-0 and 2-0) is coming off a big win at Gore and the Golden Tigers host the district’s other leader Friday when Central travel overs the mountain. Central is 3-2 and 2-0.

After a bye last week, Arkoma returns to action with a 3-1 record overall as the Mustangs open district play at Gans, which is 1-4.
