Wister goes 2-0 in regional tournament

McALESTER – Wister went 2-0 Friday in the Class 2A regional baseball tournament in McAlester to move one game away from the state tournament.

In the first round, Wister rallied past Howe, 4-3, before downing Calera in the winner’s bracket finals. The Wildcats, now 25-4, play the Calera and Panama winner at Wister Saturday. If the Wildcats win that game, they advance to the state tournament. If Wister loses, another game will be played Monday.

Calera defeated Panama, 8-5, in another first-round game before losing to Wister. Panama bounced back from its loss to Calera to defeat Howe, 16-1.

In Wister’s win over Howe, the Wildcats scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh when Landon Donaho’s single brought in Riley Crane with the winning run.

Riley Crane pitched 1.1 innings and gave up two hits and two runs, both earned, with a strikeout and two walks. Dartyn Meeks went two innings with three strikeouts and two walks while Connar Hall threw 1.1 innings and got the win, giving up two hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

Garrett Smith went the distance for Howe. He gave up nine hits and four runs, three earned, with a strikeout and two walks.

Donaho was 2-3 with a RBI for Wister, Crane doubled and went 1-3 with a run scored and Landon Thornburg doubled while going 1-3 with a run and RBI.

For Howe, Ky Lynn was 3-4 with a triple and a RBI, Kobe Wooten doubled while going 2-3 with a
RBI and a run.

Against Calera, Donaho threw a no-hitter in the win. He went six innings with three strikeouts and three walks.

Joe Hammons doubled and was 2-3 with a run scored, Hall went 2-2 with a RBI and a run scored and Tucker Wooten doubled while going 1-2 with two RBI and a run scored.
